Day 21-22: Baihe Church, Labor Park, Downtown and Olympic Square
Quick update... Sorry I've been lazy and haven't had much time to update you all. This past weekend went to the Baihe Church as usual, this time Troy and Sung from Gateway Friends Church joined us. They had to go to the front and introduce something, I have some of it on video on the bottom. Saturday we went around Dalian shopping, eating, and sight seeing. We also went to Labor Park and saw the giant Dalian ball up close. People were just hanging out all over the park. It's the Central Park of Dalian. Then we went to Olympic Square where Greg, Tammy, and I roller bladed. It was 10 RMB to rent the roller blades all day... they were very uncomfortable so 20 minutes was more than enough. It was a lot of fun. Afterwards we went to Tammy and Amos' place and played card games and they busted out all their American snacks. Yum.
I took video throughout the day. Rather than typing it all to you (I am lazy), you can watch the video. Pardon the shakey camera skillz.

Day 14-15: Hot Pot, Foodventure, Gnight
Saturday
Saturday morning went with Greg to meetup John and play frisbee with his crew. Every Saturday they play Ultimate Frisbee at Maritime University. The person who organizes the Ultimate Frisbee activities is Scott. Scott is from the States and he teaches English at one of the Universities. Greg and I joined in and played with a handful of university students. It was roughly nine on nine. It was a really nice day in Dalian, not too cold and not windy especially since it was very cold and windy for the past few days. After playing for about an hour and a half I was pretty exhausted. We had a chance to score so I sprinted down and did a cut into the endzone... that's when things went wrong. For the entire game I was going about 80% and now when I was exhausted I decided to go 110%. As I made it into the endzone I felt a pop on my hamstring and then there was pain shooting down my leg. I had to stop running and limped off the field. I've never pulled anything before so I wasn't sure what happened until Greg told me I pulled my hamstring. Booo! Spent the rest of the day limping around. :(
After frisbee Greg and I went to McDonalds to have some lunch then headed back to our apartment to shower. I had to go to the front desk to talk to them about a new room and Greg was locked out of his room because his room needed to be paid for. After a long fiasco with broken english and suedo translators Greg got his room situation fixed. They couldn't give me another room since there weren't any but they said that they could fix the problem. So after I showered in Greg's room I headed back to my room and there were these guys working on my bathroom. They had a brand new water heater. Yay.
At 2:30pm Greg and I headed to Trust Mart to meet up with Cindy, Sam, Amos, and Tammy to buy goodies for hot pot. Cindy invited us over to her apartment to have hot pot as a thank you for helping out at the English fellowship.
Tammy, Amos, Greg, Brian, and Caris. This was probably the best hot pot I've ever had. We had A LOT of meat and really good dipping sauces. It was so good! Cindy did something that night that I wish I caught on camera. She took a GIANT chuck of meat and threw it into our hot pot. That was awesome. haha.
After hot pot we ended up playing Chinese Speed Uno (That's what im calling it because it had all these different rules) for almost two hours. We had a great time, it was a lot of fun.
Sunday
Sunday morning I decided not to go to DICF because my leg was hurting from my pulled hamstring. A bruised had formed and there was a good amount of swelling. I needed to make sure I could make it to Baihe's English fellowship because I was leading worship. It was a good time of worship and praise. During the study we're broken up into small groups and this week we had a lot of good questions in our group. It's interesting to see how some of the struggles that Christian's here face are very similiar to the struggles of Christian's back home. A girl in my group had asked about one of her friends who became a believer but would still drink and smoke. Also when they drank they would become drunk and do certain things they would regret. Afterwards they would feel bad so they would ask the Lord for forgiveness but then would continue to drink. To sum it up, a grace abuser. I was able to answer her questions to the best of my abilities and talk and listen to the things she had to share and say. I really enjoy being able to listen and encourage our brothers and sisters here over seas.
We had some time to kill between the Baihe English fellowship and G Night (Global Night). Greg and I wanted to eat some street food so we went in search for some. John (coworker) and Chin (John's friend and student at the Maritime University) joined us on our Foodventure. We had a lot of good food. Here are some videos.
After our bellies were full we headed to Global Night. Global night is an event put on at the end of every month by Carlos. He runs these English Corners where locals can come and have conversations with foreighners and practice their English. At the end of every month there is a big event that is held called Global night.
Global night tonight was on October 31, Halloween. So they sold masks for people to wear. They also had a 'Thirller' mini dance performance where they tried to get everyone to dance... not happeninig. They played some games and had some other programs. It was fun getting to talk to all the locals and people who wanted to improve their English.
On the way back Greg and I stopped for a late night snack at one of the 'Meat Stick' vendors on our street. I call this guy Alaadin since I don't his real name since neither of us could communicate with this guy. He managed to learn that I was from Los Angeles and Greg and was Texas. He now calls me Los Angeles when he sees me. He was a funny guy. We didn't what kind of means he had so we would point at a meat and he would make animal noises. It was hilarious! haha.
Weekend was good. I'll leave you all with this... MAGNETIC COW! OOOOOOO!

Day 9-12: Dalian, China *Updated Video!
On Monday, we all woke up to clear skies and a smogless city. It was a little windy but nonetheless, it was a beautiful day. For lunch, Greg had a great idea of taking a short hike to where he and one of our QA employees had jog a couple mornings ago. It was up this hill that belongs to company that was doing a ton of construction right behind our office.
To give you some background, when I visited last year in July there would be truck after truck heading to the seaside near our office. They would go from 6am til 10pm, non-stop. There were tons of trucks and would be carrying rocks and sand. Sam told me that they were filling in the ocean because they were building... something. It's been over a year and this is still going on. Everyday!
So the area is still underconstruction but they've finished making trails on the hills that are between our office and the seaside/construction site.

The tiny gazebo looking object on the hill is where we hiked to.
View from the office. Guard gate and the wall we jumped. Click on the picture to see notes in flickr.I mentioned in the last post about how most Chinese workers will not go above and beyond what they are paid to do. Greg had jogged up the hill a couple of mornings ago, but he had to go through a neighborhood and go the round about way. We didn't have time for all that so we were going to try to go through the front gate. Greg had mentioned that they refused entry to him before. Lawrence talks to the security guard and the guard said that we can't enter here. So he said to find a way around. haha. So as long as he didn't let us come through the gate, or as long as he didn't see us, it wasn't his problem.
The building above was right before the guard gate.
Lawrence and Greg going around the gate.We went up some stairs on a building right before the guard gate. We then proceeded to make our way past the gate. We found an area where we could jump over the wall and then headed to the beginning of the trail. The trail was very nice since everything was brand new. We made our way up and the view at the top was amazing! On one side we had a clear view of the Dalian tech zone and then behind us we had a great view of the ocean.
Leaves starting to change color. It's Autumn!
The guards. Just strolled out.Afterwards we headed down the hill and walked right by the security guards and they didn't say anything. It was a lot of fun!
The rest of the week was just a lot of work with the QA guys and then. It has been good being able to work along side of them and have some training sessions with them. Amos and Tammy, also returned from their Hong Kong trip so we had dinner at the Muslim place again. Yum! Also found my favorite place to eat at the food court now, i'll take some pictures next time. Thursday night was DOTA night again and that was a lot of fun. The QA guys are funny when we play. It's been a busy, but good week.

Day 13: Drip Drip Drip
Drip drip drip... Only the beginning.
Last night the hotel apartment place said it had no water. When Lawrence and I got back the water pressure was low. Lawrence and I then tried to watch Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs but it started playing in chinese and after fiddling with it we got it to play in English. Halfway through the movie we started hearing dripping from the bathroom. I went to check and there was water leaking from the ceiling over our shower. This morning... it's a lot worst.
Why is that water brown? Gross...Tonight after we got back from the Baihe Church Caris talked to the lady at the front desk. From what we understood, there were no more rooms available at this hour so we had to wait until tomorrow morning. The maintenance guy never came to my room... so I thought.
After Caris headed back to her room I headed back to my room on the 8th floor alone. Lawrence is away this weekend visiting his aunt and uncle. I made my way up to my room and used my card to get in. When I opened the door I noticed something was a little off. The light in the bathroom was on. I immediately went into high alert and put my backpack down. I noticed water on the tiled floor as I entered further into the room. I was sure to leave the door open in case there was someone so they could run out in fear at the sight of me (i actually left it open in case there was someone so I could scream and maybe run away). I turn on the light so I could use the window reflection to see around the corner. I go into this fighting pose I didn't know I had, it must have been a combo of Muay Thai and Kung Fu since I'm Chinese and Thai. As I made it past our mirror I saw my reflection and I have to say, this stance I had looked pretty cool. I then proceeded to check the room thoroughly and decided the room was empty. I then make my way to the shower and noticed the ceiling panel was removed but the curtain was closed. So I quickly pushed the curtain aside and was ready to lunge forward in a fury of machine gun fists at the intruder... lucky for him/her/it, the shower was also empty.
They shut off my water...
Sad day. Going to pack my stuff since I'll probably move rooms tomorrow.Good night world. Have a good weekend!
